Unlike the conventional measures of physical improvement, it utilizes information and communication technologies to promote efficient, convenient and safe traffic.

The ITS offers a wide variety of services toward road administrators, road users, public transport operators, cargo forwarders and general public. The ITS enables to utilize the national highway effectively and safely, and promotes the new model of cultural and industrial system in the country. Hệ thống giao thông đường thủy là hệ thống thông tin phức hợp để hỗ trợ việc giám sát và điều khiển tàu thuyền ra vào cảng một cách chính xác, an toàn nhất và cung cấp cho người điều khiển phương những thông tin cần thiết và kịp thời trong quá trình tham gia giao thông đường thủy.

Hệ thống giao thông đường thủy chia thành: Hệ thống thiết bị báo hiệu cung cấp thông tin trực tiếp cho người điều khiển phương tiện giao thông và Hệ thống giám sát điều khiển tàu thuyền lưu thông và ra vào cảng.

COMPONENT

The vehicle detection system shall be used to measure traffic volume; to measure heavy trunk volume to service for making plan on overload vehicle control; to detect of traffic congestion at points installed vehicle detector on the expressway; to measure average speed of vehicle.

  1. Vehicle Detection System (VDS): The vehicle detection system shall be used to measure traffic volume; to measure heavy trunk volume to service for making plan on overload vehicle control; to detect of traffic congestion at points installed vehicle detector on the expressway; to measure average speed of vehicle.
  2. Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV): The CCTV monitoring system provides visual image of the traffic status and conditions on the highway around camera location. The system is useful for road operators to confirm visually the situation on the highway. If an incident occurs within the coverage area of camera, confirmation in detail becomes possible and countermeasure such as lane control can be implemented.  Hazardous conditions such as low visibility due to fog or heavy rain are also detected by the camera and drivers can be advised to take precautions through the variable message sign.
  3. Weather Observation System (WOS): The weather observation system is installed to measure weather conditions on or near the highway. A driving environment on the highway is judged based on the data from the weather roadside equipment.  If hazardous weather condition is detected by the system, warning message will be announced road users through the variable message sign system. If weather condition is too dangerous for driving, the highway may be closed.
  4. Variable Message Signs System (VMS): The variable message sign (VMS) system is introduced to provide highway users with road and traffic condition information such as accident, weather condition, congestion in order to assist highway users driving.
  5. Digital Transmission System (DTS): ITS or expressway traffic surveillance system deploys various devices such as VDS, CCTV camera, emergency telephone and variable message sign along the roadside. These devices are connected with the central equipment at the Traffic Control and Operation Management Office and data and voice are exchanged between them. Digital transmission system is required to perform the service of data and voice communication.
  6. Traffic Management Center (TMC): The traffic management system manages the total system, encourages data exchange between the sub systems of ITS in order to realize fully their functions and achieve the overall objectives of the traffic information/control system.
  7. Emergency Telephone System (ETS): The system will be used by the Expressway users in case of incidents such as accidents and breakdowns.
  8. Internal Telephone System (INTS): To communicate within an traffic management office, among offices and with external.
  9. Wireless Communication System (WCS): The WCS would be installed for wireless communication which is used between traffic management office and operation staff on the route or between employees who were present on the road together
  10. Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC): To be used for the purpose of toll collection including Electronic Toll Collection and Manual Toll Collection.
  11. Weigh-in-motion System (WIM): To control the overloaded vehicles and protect the Expressway.
  12. Power Supply System (PSS): To suppy power source for whole of equipments/devices and sub-system in the ITS large system.

Description:

The VDS system shall be consist of the following main equipments: camera with high resolution at road site (the cameras can be type of analog or IP camera); server, video image processor (VIP), workstation installed VDS software and monitor at traffic management office.

  • WIM system

The following diagram is WIM solution that VTG-VIJATECH applied and deployed in the Ho Chi Minh – Dau Giay ITS project.

Description: The WIM system shall consist of weight sensors, inductive loops, CCTV cameras, still cameras, and displays to drivers (VMS).

The working principle of WIM system is as follows: When one vehicle goes through the WIM stations: inductive loops and weight sensors will have functionality of detecting and measuring parameters of that vehicle such as total weight, axle weight, length of axles, speed, category of vehicle … The video from CCTV camera will be used to monitor the operation of system, the video image during the measurement will be stored temporarily until the vehicle being measured is cleared. Meanwhile, image signals transmitted from still camera (ANPR) will be used to store & recognize plate number automatically … Then, all these signals will be transferred to WIM controller cabinet at the toll collection office. Here, controller will collect, analyze all measured signals and display to operator by means of CROSS monitoring software.

Data gathered at each weight station shall be sent to the Traffic Management Office via fiber cable (digital transmission system). At the office, the supervisor just need only one computer for monitoring and recording data from the terminal equipments of Weigh-in-Motion System.

Description:

The weather observation system (WOS) consists of the equipments (Hardware: wind sensor, thermometer and rain gauge, dataLogger unit) at the site and equipments/software (Hardware/Software: workstation, WOS software) at the Control Center (See the WOS system configuration). The digital transmission system connects these two sites and transfers data between them.
